I build things that
measure, model & ship. Engineering at the seam of quantitative finance

I'm David Mroz, a Computer Science, Data Science & Economics student at UW–Madison. I turn economic intuition into software: quant-finance tooling, AI systems, and products with real users.

The short version

Where economics meets engineering

I like the place where economics meets engineering: a market idea becomes a model, and a model becomes software somebody opens every day.

At UW–Madison I'm carrying a triple major in Computer Science, Data Science, and Economics while building real products on the side. That combination is the point: I can reason about why a financial idea matters, design the math behind it, and ship the code that makes it usable.

Right now that means a quantitative-finance platform, a cross-platform nutrition app, a browser extension growing organically, and frontier edge-AI research with an industry-mentored lab. I care about things that are numerically correct, not just things that look right.

Quant & markets

Options payoffs, Greeks, implied-vol surfaces, event pricing. Institutional-grade tooling for retail investors.

AI & ML systems

LLM-driven automation and on-device computer vision: privacy-preserving analytics that run at the edge.

Full-stack shipping

Next.js, React Native, Supabase. I take products from idea to deployed, with real users and real data pipelines.

Economic reasoning

Optimization, modeling, and the why behind the build. Engineering decisions grounded in incentives and trade-offs.

Selected work

Things I've built & shipped

A platform, an app, an extension, and a research build. Each live or in active development.

Experience

Where I've worked

Jun 2026 – Aug 2026

Technical Researcher

Summer AI Lab (SAIL) · UW-Madison College of Computing & AI

Selected for the competitive CDIS/N+1 cohort to build a production AI application with industry mentorship. Engineering LLM-driven workflow automation across local and cloud-hosted model architectures on a 4-person team.

Oct 2025 – Present

Data Analytics Consultant

BioKind Analytics · UW-Madison Chapter

Built interactive visualizations from US Census, public, and transit datasets to analyze community access by ZIP code. Presented equity findings to executive leadership at the Boys & Girls Club to guide resource-allocation decisions.

Sep 2021 – May 2025

President & Curriculum Director

CompSci Kids · STEM nonprofit

Led a 4-year STEM nonprofit (~200 volunteer hours), directing 7 instructors across a Python / JavaScript / Arduino curriculum. Designed a progressive engineering curriculum for 5th–6th graders, scaling operations year over year.

Building something interesting?

I'm always open to talking about quant tooling, AI systems, internships, or a project worth shipping. The fastest way to reach me is email.
